Flow
A flow board is a tool for measuring the impact of bets and initiatives on business KPIs. One example of a flow board is analyzing the correlation between a proxy metric and lagging KPIs, which can be measured using standard deviation between the two metrics.
Main Concept
A flow board is essentially a blank canvas where users can map relationships between metrics, bets, and work. Each of these entities (metrics, bets, work) is referred to as a node. Once placed on the board, nodes can be connected to each other through edges, forming relationships.
Depending on which nodes are connected, different relationships are automatically calculated. For example, when connecting two metrics, Segflow seamlessly calculates their statistical correlation. While a correlation might not always be significant, it can still provide valuable insights at a high level—helping users determine whether their mapping aligns in the same direction.
Below, we outline the different types of nodes and their functionality.
Metrics
Metrics are time-series data points aggregated into statistical insights. You can connect metrics to data sources, link two metrics to analyze their correlation, and attach key results to metrics if you’d like to set targets.
Examples: Monthly active users (MAU), Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR).
Regression Performance Summary
When a metric node is connected to other metric nodes, you can perform a regression analysis that compares all input metrics against the selected metric. This provides a clear summary of which metrics should be prioritized or deprioritized.
The report currently provides:
- Regression Insights – A detailed regression analysis.
- Predictive Impact Analysis – Highlights how dependent metrics contribute to the main metric.
- Metric Influence Analysis – Shows how each metric affects the outcome.
- Variance Explained – Emphasizes the R-squared value and variance explanation.
- Factor Contribution Analysis – Breaks down metric relationships and their impact.
For more details, see the Regression Performance Summary in our reports section.
Editing a Metric
If you need to update a metric, view its event details, or modify its information, the flow board provides an intuitive way to do so—without leaving the board.
Bets
Bets represent initiatives your company is investing in to achieve business outcomes. You can record hypotheses and results for each bet.
Examples: Improve song recommendation algorithm, launch a new marketing campaign.
Work
Work is similar to bets but focuses on tactical execution. If your work management tool is integrated, you can directly add tasks (e.g., Jira tickets) to your flow board.
Examples: Implement AI-based song recommendations, perform a backend refactor.
Notes
Notes act as post-its on the board, allowing users to add documentation or provide additional instructions.
