Using Segflow with Growth Loops

Reforge Growth Loops

Growth Loops describe how inputs in your system reinforce outputs — creating self-sustaining mechanisms for acquisition, retention, and expansion. Segflow lets you map, measure, and improve these loops using real data.

Together, they turn compounding growth from a theory into a measurable system.

Why Combine Growth Loops and Segflow

Growth Loops explain how growth compounds; Segflow explains how to measure and improve that compounding.

Growth Loops show you where momentum lives. Segflow shows you how much momentum you actually have.

How It Works

1. Map the Loop in a Flow Board

Start by mapping your core growth loop on a Flow Board as a sequence of metrics connected by cause-and-effect relationships.

Example: Traffic → Signups → Activated Users → Referrals → Traffic

This creates a closed metric loop that Segflow can measure and analyse.

For each stage of the loop, identify the Bets (initiatives or experiments) that aim to improve it.

Examples:

  • “Revamp onboarding” → impacts Activation Rate
  • “Referral campaign” → impacts Invitations Sent
  • “SEO optimisation” → impacts Traffic Volume

Bets connect activity to measurable effects within the loop.

3. Measure Loop Strength

Run Growth Loop Analysis within the Flow Board. Segflow uses relationships between metrics to estimate:

  • Correlation and causation strength
  • Lag between input and output changes
  • Relative contribution of each stage to total growth

You can visualise how energy flows through the system — and where it leaks.

4. Monitor with Signal Loops

When a stage of the loop underperforms or overperforms expectations, open a Signal Loop. This focuses attention where the loop is losing efficiency or gaining unexpected traction.

Each signal becomes a decision point: investigate, adjust, or double down.

5. Review with Cycle Loops

Use Cycle Loops (monthly or quarterly) to evaluate overall loop performance:

  • Which metrics improved?
  • Which stages contributed most to growth?
  • What new dependencies or feedback patterns emerged?
  • Which bets created meaningful compounding effects?

The cycle loop helps teams close the learning loop between action and outcome.

6. Update the Strategy Graph

After each review, Segflow’s Strategy Graph updates loop relationships based on data. Over time, it visualises multiple active loops (acquisition, retention, monetisation) and how they interact across teams.

Example Flow

Growth Loop StageSegflow FeatureExample
AcquisitionMetric node + Bet”SEO campaign increases new visitors”
ActivationMetric node + Bet”Onboarding revamp improves activation rate”
RetentionMetric node”Returning users per week”
ReferralMetric node + Bet”Referral incentive increases invites”

Best Practices

  • Model one loop at a time. Focus on the most impactful before expanding.
  • Validate relationships with data. Don’t assume every correlation equals causation.
  • Instrument all key metrics. Missing one breaks the loop model.
  • Keep loops dynamic. Adjust relationships and weights as systems evolve.
  • Share learnings across teams. One team’s loop may feed another’s.

Avoid treating loops as static diagrams. They only create value when connected to live data and updated through loops.

Summary

Segflow transforms Growth Loops from conceptual maps into measurable growth systems.

  • Flow Boards visualise the loop’s structure.
  • Bets inject strategic action into each stage.
  • Signal Loops surface real-time performance shifts.
  • Cycle Loops provide recurring review and optimisation.
  • The Strategy Graph keeps every loop connected across teams.

Growth Loops describe how systems grow. Segflow turns that understanding into a measurable, compounding advantage.
